HANA Track Ratings - #12 - Fair Grounds

The Horseplayers Association of North America has rated Fair Grounds Race Course 12th out of the 65 tracks studied in North America.

Cumulative Takeout Score: 1.67
Field Size: 8.8
Wager Variety Score: 2.0
Best Bet: Excellent wager variety

Total HANA Score: 2.145

Rank: 12

Fair Grounds is a decent place to play, especially for the fractional bettor who might not have a huge bankroll. 10 cent supers and 50 cent pick 4's are always a favorite of smaller weekend warriors, looking for coverage for less outlay. The Fair Grounds website is among the very best in giving out horseplayer information. The track grooming report, blogs, analysis and picks are all very well done. If you are a regular at Fair Grounds, or plan to give it a look, the website is a good bookmark

I've been to DMR, SA, and the Fair Grounds of the nine listed so far, and am surprised not to find the 3 not in the top 10. I would also be surprised not to find Keeneland on top, and Saratoga in a very close runner-up position.

I sincerely hope that HANA's system takes advantage of the fact that Saratoga and other NYRA tracks upped takeout last year. There is no way any of them should be in the top ten with that insane move. 1% increase in takeouts drops handle by 6%. Anyone with half a brain knows this. They deserve nothing for raising takes.

I dont think that we will see places like calder or Saratoga on this list. Both of them greww their takeout last year while the betting has been going down. I could not make money at Calder before they raised the price. It made me stop betting there. I did not do much better at Saratoga either. Them hurting me even more made me stop betting, so I thank them.

I play FG. Even though this meet I stink - hold it most meets I stink - I enjoy the racing.

Re. NYRA takeout: Yes the HANA Rating System didn't view the takeout increase too kindly!

Maybe you racing "experts" should look further into the takeout incrase in New York. It's not a NYRA move. Blame the state.

I did not say anything about who upped the takeout, just that it was increased. I could care less who did it, I just know I pay more takeout.

As far as the horseplayer is concerned it really doesn't matter whether a takeout increase is instuted by the State, NYRA or someones fairy godmother, a takeout increase is a takeout increase.

On track experience is great at Fair Grounds. Friendly staff, fair prices, great food. It's a gem. I haven't been back since Katrina, but I'd guess that their soup of the day is still the best anywhere.

Look at the 25.9 at tampa on supers and tris an d ask me why I would ever boycott cal.How can a track handle this kind of money an d not lower the take outs on the mostpopular bets.players and horsemen are getting screwed while the adw,s are getting rich....MARTY
